Tow Vehicle
Acronyms

  • The maximum legal weight of your tow vehicle when loaded. This includes the tow ball weight when a caravan/trailer is attached.

  • The maximum legal weight your vehicle and caravan/trailer can weigh when hitched together and fully loaded.

    GCM = GVM + GTM

  • The maximum legal weight that can be transferred by the caravan/trailer onto the vehicle’s tow ball.

  • The maximum weight allowed on each axle. This limit is specified by the vehicle manufacturer and must not be exceeded.

  • How much weight is being applied to an axle.

  • The maximum mass your vehicle can tow if your trailer has its own brakes. This limit is specified by the vehicle manufacturer and must not be exceeded.

Caravan & Trailer
Acronyms

  • The maximum legal weight of your fully loaded caravan/trailer when unhitched from your tow vehicle.

    ATM = GTM + TBM

  • The maximum legal weight of your loaded caravan/trailer whilst hitched to your vehicle.
    GTM = ATM - TBM

  • The amount of weight being transferred by the caravan/trailer onto the vehicle’s tow ball.

    Whilst all tow vehicles will specify this limit, not all caravan/trailer compliance plates have this limit listed. If your caravan/trailer compliance plate specifies this limit it must be complied with.

    This is not the same at Tow Ball Mass at Tare.
